The Giver Essays (449 words) - The Giver, Son,
The Giver It is what's to come. There is no war, no appetite, and no torment. Nobody in The Community needs for anything. Everybody is accommodated. Every Family Unit is qualified for one female and male youngster. Every individual from The Community has their calling deliberately decided for them by the Committee of Elders, and they never commit an error. In this day and age, one of the most cherished assets is family and a home. In Jonas' reality, a family is all ways the equivalent. There is one mother, one father, one male youngster, and one male sister. All the homes are the equivalent. The furniture was reasonable, solid, and the capacity was obviously characterized. There was a bed for dozing, a table for eating, and a work area for examining. In the work area there were just three books: a word reference, the network volume, and the Book of Rules. In our reality, life can take you anyplace. It is possible that you can be rich or be a bum in the city. In the book, your life was chosen for you by the Committee of Elders. On the off chance that you bombed your activity, you were discharged. For most employments, when you have the activity, you have it forever. The main special case is for the birthmothers. When they have had three youngsters, they become some portion of the Clean-Up Crew. In our life, we appreciate the world to its fullest degree. In the Giver, there is no shading. Everything is high contrast. A few people don't get the chance to appreciate life. Children that are to light or undesirable are discharged. Older individuals are discharged when they have no utilization to the network. Individuals who fizzle with their activity are discharged. In our day of living, the main way you would be executed is on the off chance that you carried out a wrongdoing like killing. In their reality, individuals are killed, or what they like to call discharge, for straightforward reasons. Such would be: Babies that are to light or unfortunate are discharged. Old individuals are discharged when they have no utilization to the network. Individuals who come up short with their activity are discharged. Everything is the equivalent in the network aside from one spot. That spot would be in the Giver's living quarter and in the Giver's reality. His home has rich furnishings and racks of books all around his room. The greatest distinction is that he can see shading. In spite of the fact that there may appear to be various contrasts, there are a few likenesses in these two universes. The two universes have vehicles. In the two universes individuals like to ride there bicycles. Children despite everything need to go to class. Guardians and youngsters need to work. Reference index The Book The Giver Book Reports

Time Machine Essay Topics
Time Machine Essay TopicsWriting an essay about your travels to the future or back in time is a great way to add flair and humor to your time travel essay. Time travel scenarios are one of the most popular topics used by teachers and essay writers in school writing projects, because they make for fun essays. Below are some examples of topics students might write about in order to exercise their creativity:After years of development, we have the Internet, which has now allowed us to be able to download any possible scenario we could imagine. This technology has opened up another world of possibilities that we never knew existed. One of the easiest ways to explain this phenomenon to others is to use the example of time travel. Let's say you're a kid who wants to visit the future to see what life is like.A child from today can go to the future and download all the things that they like or they can have adventures of their own. How would they experience the future? Would they discover lo ve and adventure? Or would they be obsessed with video games and have very little to do but pass the time?Regardless of the specific time traveler's perspective, their journey will be filled with strange things and amazing discoveries. That is how a kid from today could decide to visit the future. If they are adventurous, they might just return as a child from twenty years in the future and have the same life they had when they were young. They might find that they enjoy what they do and that their children enjoy it too. Those who are parents will find that their children may not be so interested in things that were popular ten years ago. But, parents must also consider how their children will react to events that will transpire in the future - events they cannot recall at the moment. These parents must also prepare themselves for these unexpected discoveries. What they discover is how a kid from the present could go back in time.If a child was to download a book of photographs taken twenty years ago, then they would find that the children in the pictures are still the same age they were when they were born. The difference now is that their grandparents and parents are gone and their relatives and friends are all grown up. There is a sense of loss involved.Perhaps the future travelers' focus will be on sharing their experiences and finding out how the world has changed and if their grandkids are as interested in the past stories that the parents were telling them. If so, then maybe they should try reading them from a time machine. Or perhaps the stories that they read will be a mixture of the past and the future.

ââ¬Å"Does ââ¬Ësocial mobilityââ¬â¢ provide evidence for the demise of social class?â⬠In this essay, I will be gathering information and discussing the possible evidence regarding whether or not it is a component of the ââ¬Ëdemiseââ¬â¢ of social class. (Browne, 1992) According to Giddens and Birdsall (2001), open stratification systems are those in which at least some value is given to achieved status characteristics in a society. The movement can be in a downward or upward direction. Social mobility may be absolute or relative. Absolute social mobility refers to the overall numbers of people who end up in a different layer of stratification from that of their parents. Relative social mobility refers to the differences in probability of attaining a certain outcome, regardless of overall structural changes; a society can have high absolute mobility and low relative mobility. The availability of at least some social mobility can be important in providing pathways to greater equality in societies with high social inequality. (Crompton, 2008) In recent yearââ¬â¢s social mobility, the expanding higher education system and greater job flexibility have all been cited as examples of how social class is apparently becoming progressively demised in current Britain. Historically, social class was extremely important in society which was defined by a hierarchy. For example, the established middle class or the traditional working class. According to Clark (2015), social mobility barely exists, so it

Age Bias On The Older Generation - 865 Words
In todayââ¬â¢s society, the work industry is comprised of numerous generations from baby boomers to millenniaââ¬â¢s. Due to reasons ranging from increased cost of living to political policies, Americans are being forced to work longer in order to obtain the social security benefits theyââ¬â¢ve contributed to during their careers. Marxs Influence on Community Development free essay sample
This essay explores Marxââ¬â¢s influence on community development, within the parameters of social justice. I felt it was necessary to narrow down the focus of this topic as Marx has been translated, philosophized, reiterated, rewritten and rethought by a plethora of philosophers, sociologists, economists etc. I am also concentrating on Marxââ¬â¢s written ideas with regard to Western civilization. This essay does not enter into debate or description of contemporary Marxist or neo-Marxists approaches. Also, included in the discussion is conflict theory within which Marxââ¬â¢s ideas are formulated. Five of Marxââ¬â¢s major contributions to sociology and economics are described to inform the essay. These entail alienation, economic life and other social institutions, social classes, conflict as a theory of social change and capitalism. The general concepts of Marxââ¬â¢s theories are analyzed in relation to community development, its definition and the notion of social justice. Community Development ââ¬â definition and theory Bell and Newby (cited in Popple Quinney 2002) found 98 definitions of the term community alone by 1971. There have been many well-documented sociological debates over the concept of community as well (Popple and Quinney 2002). For the purpose of this essay it is important to present a working definition of community development that is ââ¬Ëboth distinctive and universal and can be applied to all types of societies from the post-industrial to the pre-industrialââ¬â¢ (Hustedde Ganowics 2002) as the topic is both historical and contemporary. I agree with Hustedde and Ganowics (2002) in that the definition of community development given by Bhattacharyya is one that encompasses such criteria. Bhattacharryaââ¬â¢s (2004) simple definition is the process of promoting solidarity and agency. Solidarity is understood as ââ¬Ëshared identity and normsââ¬â¢ (Bhattacharyya 2004, p. 12). Agency is defined as the ââ¬Ëcapacity to create, reproduce, change, and live according toââ¬â¢ oneââ¬â¢s own ââ¬Ëmeaning system, to have the powers to define themselves as opposed to being defined by others (de Certeau cited in Bhattacharyya 2004, p. 2). Community development to date has not been linked to or developed into one descriptive and or cohesive theory since it draws on a variety of disciplines such as sociology, psychology, economics and political science (Kenny 1996; Tesoriero 2010). In examining various theories it can help us to understand peopleââ¬â¢s behaviour, develop a framework in order to better comprehend events and develop tools and methods for more efficient practice. The United Nations has targeted various ways in which disadvantaged individuals may be able to participate in the self-promotion of social justice such as organizational, informational, developmental, constitutional, legal and political (Craig 2002). However, Craig and Mayo (cited in Craig 2002) state ââ¬Ëmy own additional emphasis would be on the role of community development as the means by which the excluded and the marginalized can act on their own behalves in this searchââ¬â¢ (Craig 2002, p. 671). Marxism, which has its roots in conflict theory, (Giddens 1993a; Ritzner Goldman 2004) is linked to the basic issues of social justice. During the mid nineteenth century, Marx saw the issues of social conflict between two fundamental classes, the working class proletariat and the capitalists of which the latter had power over the other translating into oppression and exploitation (Abercrombie, Hill Turner 2000; Van Krieken et al. 2000). It is from the standpoint of conflict theory that Marxists and neo-Marxists have examined the position of power in the capitalist system, which rests in the minority hands of those with economic control (Van Krieken et al. 2000). Craig (cited in Craig 2002, p. 70) said of the present day market that it is ââ¬Ëthe fundamental cause of much injustice, both social and economicââ¬â¢. Marxââ¬â¢s concept of conflict has influenced todayââ¬â¢s community development practice offering theories on which to analyze and study social injustices Today, the same issues of oppression and inequality though different in historical context are the major challenges for community development in that it strives to manage and transform the conflictive issues of social relations, power struggles and oppressive elements within a society (Kenny 1996). These issues are antithetical to the goals and aims of community development and it is by studying and applying Marxââ¬â¢s theories to situations in the world and the community that change and social justice can hopefully be attained. Marx and capitalism Marx contributed five major concepts to sociology: alienation, economic life and other social institutions, social classes, conflict as a theory of social change and capitalism (Abercrombie, Turner Hill (2000). All of these concepts are pertinent to community development as they involve membersââ¬â¢ participation, which are evident in work, society, class, social change and capitalist society. These concepts are also embedded in the community structure in one manner or another. Marxââ¬â¢s early writings represent his philosophy on what it is to be human and fulfilled (Kenny 1996 p. 82). He believed that people fulfill themselves or become fully human in the way that they are productive in the material world (Kenny 1996). Marx saw labour as ââ¬Ëmanââ¬â¢s self-confirming essenceââ¬â¢ and the ââ¬Ëprimary most vital human activityââ¬â¢ (Swingewood 2002, p. 31). However, with the inception of capitalism Marx believed that manââ¬â¢s labour had been transformed into an alienated object outside of himself resulting in dehumanization or alienation (Swingewood 2000). Marx also acknowledged that alienation could exist on a personal level with respect to individualsââ¬â¢ feelings in addition to the alienation brought about by social and economic systems of capitalism (Abercrombie, Hill Turner 2000). It is the latter to which Marx is most often referred. Alienation can be seen as counter productive in relation to the concept of agency, an essential element in community development. Marx is most frequently alluded to as an economic determinist since he identified the central features of social activity to be the results of economic structures (Abercrombie, Turner Hill 2000; Ritzer Goldman 2004). In Marxââ¬â¢s perspective the capitalists of the dominant wealthy upper class were able to become more cohesive in their ties and communications than the subordinate working class (Ritzer Goldman 2004).

All Quit on the Western Front essays
All Quit on the Western Front essays All Quit on the Western, by Erich Maria Remarque, is a book that explores the true horrors of World War I thought the eyes of a German solider. This story is shows how World War I was not the glorifying war that some people envision it to be. The author uses the character of Paul to tell a realistic story of what the average WWI solider had to endure. This book raises the issue of how destructive war can be not only to a country, but also to a generation of a nation. One of the major themes in the story is that of the lost generation. What Remarque was trying to show, is that an entire generation was lost because of the war. Not only were millions of people killed in the fighting but also many of them were distorted mentally because of the horrible experiences that many of then had to endure. Paul talks about the faceless enemy and how the fight was not with anyone he hated. Paul was affected the greatest when he had to kill the French soldier in the ditch and hear him die a slow painful death. This one experience, of not only killing a man but also to do it close enough that he could put a face with his enemy, haunted Pauls mind. This was most likely a shared feeling with the soldiers at this time. They had to live though watching their countrymen die by being shot or blown up and continue fighting as if nothing should affect them. To deal with death is hard enough without having it shoved in your face. The fact of the matter is that an entire nation suffers when fighting a war. The county is physically destroyed and needs to be rebuilt. This requires money that has already been spent in a war effort. The major lost is that one generation of young adults that were forced to fight a war that they didnt understand. They were almost wiped out and those that did survive must live with the atrocities that they have seen. This is one of the main points illustrated by Remarque though the s ...

Quotes from Martin Van Buren
Quotes from Martin Van Buren Martin Van Buren was the eighth president of the United States having served from 1837 to 1841. Following are quotes from the man known as the Little Magician. He was president during the Panic of 1837 and blocked the admission of Texas as a state.Ã Quote by Martin Van Buren As to the presidency, the two happiest days of my life were those of my entrance upon the office and my surrender of it. Unlike all who have preceded me, the Revolution that gave us existence as one people was achieved at the period of my birth; and whilst I contemplate with grateful reverence that memorable event, I feel that I belong to a later age and that I may not expect my countrymen to weigh my actions wi th the same kind and partial hand. Van Burens Inaugural Address March 4, 1837 The people under our system, like the king in a monarchy, never dies. On receiving from the people the sacred trust twice confided on my illustrious predecessor, and which he has discharged so faithfully and so well, I know that I can not expect to perform the arduous task with equal ability and success.Ã Van Burens Inaugural Address March 4, 1837 It is easier to do a job right than to explain why you didnt. For myself, therefore, I desire to declare that the principle that will govern me in the high duty to which my country calls me is a strict adherence to the letter and spirit of the Constitution as it was designed by those who framed it. Van Burens Inaugural Address March 4, 1837 There is a power in public opinion in this country-and I thank God for it: for it is the most honest and best of all powers-which will not tolerate an incompetent or unworthy man to hold in his weak or wicked hands the lives and fortunes of his fellow-citizens. Stated in the Judiciary Committee on January 8, 1826.

Present a that analyze the change in a major organization(Ford,GM,Chrystler,Best Buy, Bank of America, ect.) base on the tr - Research Paper Example However, despite the wildly popular Model T, General Motors slowly but surely caught up with the Ford Motor Company by the early 1930s, and by mid 1930s it has graduated to become the worldââ¬â¢s largest automobile company. It maintained its dominant position throughout the 1950s and 1960s. General Motor Company faced a series of dramatic changes in the economic environment in 1970s like the Oil Shock and the entry of Japanese competitors in the US market, and by 1980s it had entered the path of slow bleed. The industrial behemoth employed more than two hundred thousand employees and had manufacturing or marketing presence in more than 150 countries. It lost ground to its more nimble Japanese competitors steadily and the twin recessions of 2001 and 2009 triggered the near collapse of General Motors. The recession of 2009 was the final trigger and GM finally filed for bankruptcy protection in 2009. The urge to survive forced the GM management to take unpleasant but important decisi ons. Aided by strong government support, better economic conditions, a resolute management and an upswing in the market sentiments in the US as well as all over the world, GM was finally able to bounce back by 2010. This paper analyzes GMââ¬â¢s situation in 2000s - the external as well as internal challenges it faced and the changes it incorporated to survive, and subsequently, grow. General Motors in 2000s General Motors entered 2000s after a heady decade in 1990s. US automobile companies like General Motors and Ford Motor Company had experienced increased sales and record smashing profits. US customers loved and bought heavy cars and SUVs - vehicles that offered higher margins than smaller, compact and fuel efficient cars that the Japanese automobile companies manufactured. General Motors, by 2000, was a vertically integrated company with multiple brands and operations. These brands/operations operated independently, resulting in a lot of inefficiency. General Motors was also h eavily investing in technology. It was embracing Internet as a new medium of interfacing with consumers as well as vendors. It was also extensively investing on new communication technologies that would offer novel features to its customers (Nohria, Dyer, and Dalzell, 2002). Challenges faced The last decade of the century has been a tumultuous one, and has witnessed dramatic changes in economic scenarios. 1. Distance from the customer: The Gulf Wars had resulted in a never before seen situation ââ¬â gas prices had shot through the roof and subsequently the cost of running the car had become more important than the cost of buying the car. While the nimble Japanese players had rightly understood that the environmentally conscious consumer wanted smaller, more efficient and easy to own cars, US automobile manufacturers, notably GM, continued investing in developing bigger and more powerful gas guzzlers. GM had clearly faulted on the most critical business basics ââ¬â listening to the consumer. 2. Bureaucratic decision making process: The century old legacy, the very reason why GM had become such a superpower, was lost. Faced with the onslaught of Model T which offered no choices to consumers, General Motors fought back by offering its customers a wide range of cars to choose from. This was possible because the decision making process at General Motors was fast and quick. However, almost a century of world dominance had resulted in complacency in the company. This meant the management was slow

International financial market - and- corporate risk management Essay
International financial market - and- corporate risk management - Essay Example The above equation evaluates the return on a risky asset in terms of (a) its minimum compensation and (b) its potential risk compensation. Within the thinking on modern portfolio theory, the Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM) establishes the theoretical relationship between risk and return, where average expected investor return is determined by the average market return, as shown below: à ² represents market sensitivity. An investor can, hence, estimate returns (r) by understanding à ², the risk inherent in the stock, when only the stockââ¬â¢s history is considered. In a well diversified portfolio, though, the volatility of the individual stock has little influence on the portfolioââ¬â¢s overall performance. Empirical data gathered in investigations of CAPM, however, argues against the predictions of the model and this has largely invalidated many applications of the model. Portfolio Theory is focused on investors. Two fundamental choices have to be made: what proportion of risky assets should be included in the portfolio; and asset allocation, which depends on the conservative or aggressive requirements of the investor. The theory of diversification allows lower standard deviations and variances of returns within a portfolio. Additionally, the Efficient Market Hypothesis (EMH) suggests that the prices of assets fully reflect available information: the implication is that the market cannot be consistently outperformed, since future share prices cannot be predicted based on historical data (weak-form efficiency); share prices adjust immediately to all available information (semi-strong-form efficiency); share prices reflect public and private information (strong-form efficiency). Diversification suggests two subsequent approaches to the management of the portfolio: active management requires the selection of stocks and the timing of the market, whereas passive management requires the purchase and long-term

Business Ethics Essay Example for Free
Business Ethics Essay In a narrative format, discuss the key facts and critical issues presented in the case. Word count: 158 Countrywide Financial began in 1969 and by 2000 was one of the nations largest lenders (Ferrell, 2010). In the late 1990s and early 2000s, Countrywide Financial offered subprime mortgage loans. Subprime mortgage loans were loans that were offered to people who would not ordinarily be able to qualify for conventional loans because of Income, lack of credit or low credit score. Because of the structure of these mortgage loans, people found It hard to make payments when the economy slowed down. The real estate market and the economy was negatively affected by the large number of people who were unable to make payments on their mortgages. Countrywide Financials earnings were posltlve until 2007, when the economy slowed and real estate prices dropped. In 2008, Bank of America bought Countrywide Financial. Bank of America had more assets that could handle the crisis, and Bank of America would be able to handle the ethical investigations involving Countrywides questionable lending practices. Reference: Ferrell, O. C. (2010). Business Ethics: Ethical Decision Making and Cases, 8th Ed.. Cengage Learning What were the incentives for Countrywide to write so many subprime loans? Word count: 168 Countrywide Financial benefited financially from offering subprime mortgage loans. Since the interest rate, fees and terms of subprime mortgages are typically higher than conventional loans, the lenders are able to profit from this type of loan (Moulton ; Bozeman, 2011). Between 1982 and 2003, Countrywide reported substantial earnings, and the offered profitable returns on stock investors. By offering mortgages and loans to borrowers who would not ordinarily qualify, the ees and interest were collected from thousands of borrowers with this type of loan. They also extended loan privileges to a large amount of the population who would not ordinarily be able to own homes. I feel that Countrywide Financials Incentive for offering subprime mortgage loans was for financial benefit. I believe that they should have known the effects these types of loans would have If the economy took a downturn. They were too Interested In the profits to be made and continued the practice despite the negative effects It would have on people and the country as a whole. Moulton, S. , Bozeman, B. (2011). The Pulicness of Policy Environments: An Evaluation of Subprime Mortgage Lending. Journal of Public Administration Reseach Theory, 21(1), 87-115. dot:10. 1093/jopart/muq005 Ferrell, O. C. (2010). Business Ethics: Ethical Decision Making and Cases, 8th Ed. , What was Countrywides logic in thinking that originating loans for people with poor credit ratings would result in positive outcomes? Word count: 182 Before the real estate crisis, the subprime mortgage industry was praised for helping people attain homeownership (Ferrell, 2010). Subprime mortgages helped minorities and lower income people be able to afford to own a home. At the time, it was thought of as a positive financial tool. Since there were more people being able to attain loans to own a home, other industries benefited from the effects of the subprime mortgage practice. Contractors, the building supply industry and real estate agencies were all profiting from these lending practices. It seemed that these types of loans were helping many industries. In a speech given by Govenor Edward Gramlich in May, 2004 (www. federalreserve. v), he spoke of these lending practices and said the increased availability of subprime mortgage credit has created new opportunities for homeownership and has allowed previously credit-constrained homeowners to borrow against the equity in their homes to meet a variety of needs.

Viral Infections :: essays research papers
VIRAL INFECTIONS: THE TRUE WHYS AND WHAT NOWS It all started with a little tickling in my throat. I forged ahead, knowing all too well what that feeling meant, I was getting sick. I convinced myself to just not think about it and it would just go away. This whole time there was an army of alien species amassing in my bloodstream and older cells. They are horrifyingly ugly, like something straight out of H. R. Geigerââ¬â¢s imagination. They writhe and twitch while they are on the hunt for one of your precious body cells. One can almost imagine them squealing to one another "Thatââ¬â¢s the one fellas, that is the cell we turn into Fort Viri!!". Then they attack, attaching their bodies to the cellââ¬â¢s only defense, itââ¬â¢s outer wall. The cunning viri know this dance all too well, the cell has no chance. All too quickly the viri convince the cell, via complex chemical codes to admit the viri into its life blood, the cytoplasm. Soon they would turn this doomed c ell into a virus nursery, churning out countless clones of the virus that converted the original cell. I now must resign myself to the fact that I have somehow come into contact with a virus and it has started to multiply in my body. By now the symptoms are undeniable and all encompassing. I have the flu. Viral infections are caused by a host organism taking in and precipitating the reproduction of viruses. These infections bring with them a miriad of symtoms including, but not restricted to fever, general achiness, increased mucous production, and general sluggishness. This entire chain of events starts when a person comes into contact with a virus. This can happen a number of ways: contact with infected body fluids, contact with the mucous membranes of an infected person, and even inhalation of airborne viri. When one comes into contact with a virus, it wastes no time in making your body itââ¬â¢s new home. It quickly finds a body cell to reproduce in, usually in the body system in which it found access to the body. For example a virus that is inhaled will usually take up residence in the lungs or throat of the host animal. Since the virus has no internal reproductive system, it finds a cell to invade and latches on to itââ¬â¢s cellular membrane. It does this using specialized protein chains, these act as tiny fishing hooks permanently attaching the virus to the host cell. National Hero of Philippines: Jose Rizal
1. My dad always tells me that behind every great man is a greater family. Maybe what he meant was no one could be great in life without the help of his family or without his family along with him. This was concretely shown in Rizalââ¬â¢s life. Being the great man that he is, Rizal was brought up by his parents very well that he became almost excellent and great in all that he did. Way back in my elementary days, we were asked what we would like to be when we grow up. I answered, ââ¬Å"My dad is a great, smart and handsome accountant and I wanna be just like him.â⬠I believed that what we turn out to be is patterned on our parents, how we are brought up by them and how our family supports us in what we do. In Rizalââ¬â¢s case, his abilities, I believe, came from his parents. His skills in literature particularly in poems and his skill in speaking Spanish came from the upbringing he got from his mother, Teodora Alonso and his skills in philosophy came from his father, Francisco Mercado. I admire Rizalââ¬â¢s parents because even if they were part of the principalia, they lived simply and taught their children to live humbly. They exercised their children to be good-mannered, respectful to everyone, disciplined and God-fearing. They were strict to their children and they, just like any other parents, disciplined their children physically because they believed in the saying ââ¬Å"Spare the rod and spoil the childâ⬠. They also taught Rizal and his siblings to love God above all. This was concretely shown in their practice of attending mass every day, praying the angelus at home and praying the rosary before going to sleep at night. However, being strict and very religious persons that they are, they let their kids have time for playing. All of that taught Rizal to balance everything in his life, to have time for studying, for God, for him and for his family but still manage to have fun once in a while. Based from my experience, I know a lot of people who have very unsupportive family or came from a broken family and who is now unsuccessful in life. All Iââ¬â¢m saying is, Rizal would not be what he became if it were not because of the help of his family, especially, his parents. 2. ââ¬Å"Sandali lang ha, mag-aaral lang ako sa Rizal para maging accountant akoâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ This, I always say, to whomever I am talking to before studying for this subject. Most often, I wonder, what does the Rizal course have to do with my chosen college course, accountancy? Rizal was not an accountant. So why study this? As we started our journey through this course, little by little, I began to understand why we have Rizal in our curriculum. For one reason, it is a law to have a Rizal subject in all the courses of all universities. So, just by this reason, we have no way out from studying this course. But talking as a Filipino, I believe that we have to study Rizal because if we reflect, what we really know about Rizal are only the 2 novels he made which were Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, that he died because what he wrote were all against the Spaniards and that he is our national hero. But what we do not know is that Rizal is just an ordinary person like us before all that happen and like what Mr. Ungriano said, I believe that there is always a Rizal in every Filipino and I hope to find that Rizal in me with the help of this course. Rizalââ¬â¢s life, thoughts, ideas, works, principles and convictions are very influential to peopleââ¬â¢s life. Taking the case of the late Ninoy Aquino into consideration, I believed that he was greatly influenced by Rizal. Thatââ¬â¢s one example of his influence of his heroism. In this course, we will see how Rizal influenced many Filipinos by his childhood, by how he was brought up by his parents, by how he was as a student, by how well he did in college, etc. My personal reason why I am interested in studying him is to know why, of all our heroes, he became our national hero. I have been insisting all my life that Andres Bonifacio should be our national hero, because in the first place, he was the one who fought the Spaniards sword-to-sword and he was the one who gathered all Filipino to go against the Spaniards. But there was a point in Bonifacioââ¬â¢s life that I missed. He never won any battle and he surrendered to the Spaniards. Even Aguinaldo, our 1st president, surrendered to the Americans. In the other hand, Rizal, who used only his pen, which was said as a weapon mightier than the sword, in fighting for freedom, never surrendered from a fight even in the last moments in his life. Lastly, studying Rizalââ¬â¢s life and works is a way of saying thank you to him for all his sacrifices and deep sense of nationalism that greatly contributed and led to our countryââ¬â¢s freedom. Maybe one thing that we should really work on is our love for our country and who knows, someone in our generation might be the next Rizal. As what I have said, Rizal is just an ordinary person, but the most extraordinary of all his kind.

Egalitarian Relationships in Radical Heterosexuality Essay
In this article the author Naomi Wolf does a great job in explaining radical sexuality. Also known as egalitarian relationships. In marital relationships, the meaning is typically that husband and wife have equal status in the marriage. That is sometimes defined as having equal power. She talks about there being some conditions to abide by. For example, it requires that women should be able to support themselves without the help of any man. Also the man must yield the automatic benefits presented by gender. Women give up gender benefits as well as the men. By day they fight gender injustice; by night they sleep with men (Wolf p. 155), she questions weather feminists who are in a heterosexual relationship are contradicting themselves,â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦In conclusion, Wolf explains that it is perfectly ok to be a feminist, hate sexism and love men. Men were able to do just about anything they wanted with their wives, until the womens movement and even then in some parts of the countries it is still the same. Prior to the Civil War married women had many duties but few rights. They were not permitted to control their property, even when it was theirs by inheritance. A husband had the right to his wifes wages, to decide on the education and religion of their children, and to punish his wife if she displeased him. (Janice M. Steil). In addition, it shows how men always over rule women. Naomi Wolf also talks about how women were not treated as human. For example, she says, In the nineteenth century, when a judge ruled that a husband could not imprison and rape his wife, the London Times bemoaned. Also, she mentions the English common law that said, a man could legally beat his wife with a switch no thicker than his thumb, and thats where she says we got the phrase rule over thumb. It seems incredible to me that they treated women that way. What most feminists want is the marriage where their partner is showing respectful treatment towards them and their children, a kindness rather than a legal right such as before or in other countries today. Therefore, All the rules that men laid down over the centuries have recently gone out the window, and were

F-100 Super Sabre in the Vietnam War
The North American F-100 Super Sabre was an American fighter aircraft that was introduced in 1954. Capable of supersonic speeds, the F-100 was North Americans successor to the earlier F-86 Sabre which had seen great success during the Korean War. Though plagued by early performance and handling issues, the definitive version of the aircraft, the F-100D, saw extensive use during the Vietnam War both as a fighter and in a ground-support role. The type was phased out of Southeast Asia by 1971 as newer aircraft became available. The F-100 Super Sabre was also utilized by several NATO air forces. Design Development With the success of the F-86 Sabre during the Korean War, North American Aviation sought to refine and improve the aircraft.à In January 1951, the company approached the U.S. Air Force with an unsolicited proposal for a supersonic day fighter that it had dubbed Sabre 45.à This name derived from the fact that the new aircrafts wings possessed a 45-degree sweep.à Mocked up that July, the design was heavily modified before the USAF ordered two prototypes on January 3, 1952.à Hopeful about the design, this was followed by a request for 250 airframes once development was complete.à Designated the YF-100A, the first prototype flew on May 25, 1953.à Using a Pratt Whitney XJ57-P-7 engine, this aircraft achieved a speed of Mach 1.05.à The first production aircraft, a F-100A, flew that October and though the USAF was pleased with its performance, it suffered from several crippling handling issues.à Among these was poor directional stability which could lead to a sudden and unrecoverable yaw and roll.à Explored during the Project Hot Rod testing, this issue led to the death of North Americans chief test pilot, George Welsh, on October 12, 1954.à YF-100A Super Sabre prototype in flight. US Air Forceà Another problem, nicknamed the Sabre Dance, emerged as the swept wings had a tendency lose lift in certain circumstances and pitch up the aircrafts nose.à As North American sought remedies for these problems, difficulties with the development of the Republic F-84F Thunderstreak compelled the USAF to move the F-100A Super Sabre into active service.à Receiving the new aircraft, the Tactical Air Command requested that future variants be developed as fighter-bombers capable of delivering nuclear weapons. Marriage and Relationships According to Christians Essay
Marriage and Relationships According to Christians The principles that Christians believe should guide their personal relationships are: * Trust * Tolerance * Understanding * Forgiveness * Caring * Respect The first principle that I believe should play a large role in a Christianââ¬â¢s personal relationship is trust, without trust the coupleââ¬â¢s relationship would crumble. The whole relationship must be based on trust. The second principle I think is tolerance no matter how many problems or bad past relationships a person has had the Christian attitude is to be nice and have patience with the other person. In your answer consider one or more situation(s) in which Christian belief would ââ¬Å"make a differenceâ⬠. Consider whether all Christian couples would respond in this way. I believe that Christian couples could apply their beliefs and make a difference to their marriage in many ways: The first belief that a Christian couple could apply to their marriage that would make a difference is trust without trust the relationship would fall apart each person in the marriage could apply trust to their marriage by trusting their spouse not to have an affair to trust someone they have to be honest with you e.g. if someone lied to the other then it would be a lot harder to trust them in the future because you would not know if they were telling you the truth. The second belief that would make a difference in a marriage is tolerance this is because one of the spouses could have a problem mentally or physically and you will have to tolerate this problem and the other person should already know this before entering into the marriage. They should also try to help their partner get through this challenge or help them get by. Self and Community Self Value and Corporal
Question: Discuss about theSelf and Communityfor Self Value and Corporal. Answer: Introduction Human dignity teaches individuals that every human being on earth is entitled to the rights of satisfying their basic needs. It is the sense of self-respect, self-value, corporal or mental veracity and empowerment. It is the most significant form of human right and is the source of all fundamental rights. Human dignity is not based on an individuals race, belief, gender or any other factor. It is intrinsic to all human beings, absolute and free of the state. Human beings are direct representation of God, and they are Gods own children. Every human being has the aim of being good, either on purpose or accidentally. Human beings have the possibility of attaining their full potential by promoting and safeguarding the wellbeing of the society. The responsibility is not to put in commitment for individual betterment, but for a wider social responsibility. The way is to realize the responsibilities by contributing to common good in accordance with the requirements of others and to encourag e and assist social units in bettering life. The violation of human dignity generally happens in three ways humiliation, objectification and degradation of human dignity. It is considered as an act that reduces a person's self-respect, treats that individual just as a medium of goal accomplishment, and devalues that person. This process of human dignity strips off violation act a persons human characteristics and attributes and it makes that person feel inferior to others. Under these broad categories of human dignity violation comes different forms of devaluation of an individual torture, assault, bonded labor, labor exploitation, slavery and social exclusion. All these are direct exploitations of an individuals human rights. Bonded labor or debt slavery is a form of human dignity violation probably the least known one. It is the act of a person's pledging of his or her labor or services as a leverage for the repayment of his debt or any other form of obligation. The services that are required to repay that debt might be unspecified along with the services duration. Debt bondage can be passed on from one generation to another. It has affected millions of men, women and children all over the world and has occurred in different sector like agriculture, construction, textile and garment. At the core of debt bondage lies poverty, social exclusion and poor legislative implementation. In fact, a bonded labor touches everyones life, in all corners of the world. The worst affected are people who belong to a poor family. The International Labor Organization (ILO)has intended to eradicate this form of violation of human dignity and identified it as a form of slavery when an advantage is provided to pay off any deb t; the debt collector often increases the rates of repayment and makes it impossible for the person in debt to exit from the situation. These kinds of violation are mostly seen in corporate or individual loan lenders. According to ILO, around 19 million victims areoppressed and refugee workers and native peopleare mostly susceptible to this form of violation. Bonded labor is intended to abuse workers. It is exploited across a variation of businesses to yield goods for ingesting round the sphere. Bonded laborsubsists owing to the tenacity of poverty, extensive discernment constructing huge groups of people susceptible to manipulation and the being of individuals who are ready to abuse the distraction of others. Work passports for migrant workers are seized and fees are charged to provide jobs to such workers, especially in tech companies. Such fee payment leave the migrant worker trapped in the job to pay off his debts or make up for the loss. Other forms of bonded labor present in i nformation technology companies is overtime. Leveraging complaints about work productivity, workers are forced to work beyond their shift timings to make up for the loss, and for that, extra wages are also not provided. Notwithstanding the point that bonded labor is unlawful, administrations are seldom disposed to impose the rule, or to guarantee that those who earn from it are penalized. Extensive discernment against some public assemblies denotes they have narrow entree to fairness, schooling and means to exist destitution, the foremost causes the debt is engaged at all. Organisation slaves are existing globally today in every company, knowingly or unknowingly. These companies are actually contributing to the problem. The major cause of such violence regularly occurring in the society can be traced back to the ignorance about the issue. Studies have approached the issue with the use of technology and networking as means of opposition to the issue. These studies have suggested the use of expert knowledge for drafting anti-bondage techniques. Expert advice and their understanding of technology can be used to situate the activities carried out by preventers and law enforcement as network stabilisation methods. Companies, where such kind of slavery and bondage exists, can influence their associates and providers to stop such violations, and exercise social responsibility. Our aim ought to be to mould the society with no violence or bondage of any kind. Bonded labor seems to have transformed with time. Today it is not restricted to the old-style control equation in agronomy, where the lower rung folks are anticipated to execute tedious errands in exchange for definite survival. The predominant arrangement now is of debt bondage.Amid the pleas for mitigation grows the punishment for defilements, a devoted municipal level care officer eyeing the concerns, and instinctive addition of free bonded laborers as recipients in administration safety programs. The authorities must keep in mind not to let the freed laborers spiral back into the cycle of endless slavery. Risk Analysis Techniques
Introduction Over the last two decades, financial systems have faced many challenges in terms of business risks and unforeseen market changes that lead to losses. These circumstances led to better insight and research into the risks that face financial institutions. Focus was put on three main areas of risk: Risk analysis, risk assessment and business impact analysis.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Risk Analysis Techniques specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Risk analysis entails identifying the possible threats to a corporation and finding out the loop holes that might expose the corporation to these threats. Risk assessment on the other hand entails assessment of the mitigation measures put in place to counter the threats against the organization or corporation. Business impact analysis deals with analysis of the overall performance of the organization (Risk analysis techniques 1997). The risks faced by financial institutions over the years have been liquidity, market, foreign exchange, interest rates and credit (Forlani 2002).These risks have been greatly reduced due to development of modern risk management techniques. These techniques are vital for risk management but bring along several advantages and disadvantages. It is therefore a matter of striking a suitable balance between the pros and cons in ensuring that the most effective risk management technique is employed. The paper puts into focus the risks, some the most common and effective mitigation techniques and their pros and cons. Risk of Foreign exchange The foreign exchange market is where financial institutions trade in different world currencies. Foreign exchange rate is the price at which one currency is exchanged for another. A foreign exchange rate of 75Kenya shillings to 1 US Dollar just means that you would have to pay 75 Kenya shillings to get 1 US Dollar. The value of one currency relative to other world currencies varie s subjectively rather than objectively because it is dependent upon speculation more than any fixed standards (BMO capital markets 2008). This variation in value therefore leads to currency risks because the import and export businesses in the countries in question are affected. A stronger US Dollar would mean higher product value for Kenyan exporters because they get more shillings for each Dollar; on the other hand, this would mean higher expenses for importers who would have to pay more for each Dollar.Advertising Looking for essay on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Financial analysts try to analyze and predict these movements in the foreign exchange rate with their principle objective being to minimize any losses that may be incurred due to unfavorable movements in foreign exchange. This analysis ensures that company value in terms of liabilities, assets and cash flow is protected as this can also grea tly change with the prevailing exchange rate (Dew Wiltbank 2009). Profits could also be greatly increased with proper risk analysis. As illustrated above, an exporter in Kenya could hold his product when the value of the Dollar is at say 65Kshs and wait to sell when the Dollar gains value to say 78Kshs. This would mean an extra 13Kshs for every Dollar worth of product, gained purely out of speculation. It should however be noted that there exists the risk of loosing if the value of the Dollar drops to for example 55Kshs. Techniques are used to hedge against foreign exchange risk Non-Hedging Foreign exchange Risk Management Techniques This is a simple method of risk management where if the exporter and importer countries have currencies with relatively similar value, then they need not change their money into world leading currencies like the US Dollar (Money matters 2005). This reduces the currency risk associated with foreign exchange fluctuations. FX Forward Hedges This is perhaps the most direct means of hedging foreign exchange risk. Here, an exporter and importer get into contract to trade at a fixed forex rate for a given period with the facilitation of a financial institution. If a Kenyan exporter sells to an American importer goods worth 1 million Dollars at an exchange rate of 75 USD to 1Ksh, the Kenyan exporter may get into contract with a financial institution to deliver 1 Million Dollars in Exchange for payment of 75millionKshs over 90 days. This acts as a form of insurance to the exporter as within the given time frame, he can exchange his 1 million Dollars for 75millionKshs irrespective of what happens to the exchange rate. The exporter must however deliver the 1 million Dollars even if the American fails to pay on time (International Trade Administration 2008).Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Risk Analysis Techniques specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Foreign exchange Options Hedges Foreign exchange options are used if a foreign currency deal is carried out without a specific date of completion or delivery. The option holder buys the right to buy domestic currency at an agreed upon exchange rate within the time period that the option is valid. The investor is protected against losses in case the foreign currency drops and has the option of selling the option back to the lender if the foreign currency goes up substantially (Miller 2007). The options therefore provide more flexibility than forward hedges but come with a higher cost. Credit risk Credit risk is the risk that a debtor of a corporation will not pay all or part of his debt within the agreed upon period (Ruefli, Collins Lacugna 1999).Analysis into these risk aims at reducing losses due by finding out as much as is possible to help the managers make informed decisions about whom to lend. Credit risk mitigation techniques There are many varying ways of reducing credit risks. Some common ones used by banks include checking loan repayment history, demanding some collateral and trying to recover as much from the debtor as possible incase they fail to pay up (when dealing with individuals) (Kidwell et al 2007). When choosing and managing loan portfolios, banks reduce credit risks by designing different loan products for different target clientele (Kidwell et al 2007).The banks could also put in place internal mechanisms to help them monitor their credit risks more accurately. Internal analysis by banks can greatly reduce credit risks because control measures can be expanded to include credit exposures that may come about by settling credit trades or by including properly measured credit settlement exposures under identical controlled environments in the control mechanisms (Selim McNamee 1999). Systems can be built to renew current and any future unsettled exposures and monitor them through the settlement process. This ensures that there is accurate and timely information that pertains to credit risk settlement exposure (Chang Thomas 1989).Advertising Looking for essay on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More For international banks dealing with many currencies and trading across wide geographic areas, this can only be effective with the help of a merged risk management system (Settlement Risk In Foreign Exchange Transactions 1996). The banks then apply agreed upon credit controls to all their credit risk settlements which help them keep their credit exposure within acceptable limits. Banks can considerably cut credit risks without necessarily reducing the amount of credit trading by fine tuning their means of settlement (Miller 1998). Interest rate risk This risk lies in the fact that interest rates may change and affect the flow of cash in different financial vehicles (Fenzel Scholz 2008).Reinvestment income could also be adversely affected by changing interest rates (Kidwell et.al 2007).Dipping interest rates will mean lower returns for the lender. Interest risk analysis is aimed at minimizing vulnerability to changing interest rates to ensure that the organization makes profit and i f there are any losses, then they should be minimal (Kidwell et.al 2007).This risk is particularly two sided as if the interest rates go high, one party is bound to benefit as the other incurs losses due to reduced earnings. Mitigation Techniques used to reduce interest rate risk It is essential that the risk likely to be brought about by changing interests be fully understood for proper interest risk management to be effected (Henkel 2009).Organizations ought to put in place mechanisms to measure the potential effects of a change in the interest rates (Torben, Denrell Bettis 2007). Gap analysis, duration analysis and VAR are the most common methods used by organizations to measure this. Gap analysis is done by comparing the difference between assets earning interest and interest bearing liabilities during a given period. A greater difference is an indication that the organization is more exposed to interest rate variation (Baucus Cooper 1993) Duration gap analysis measures the du ration of the organizations assets and the duration of its liabilities; keeping a smaller difference between these two protects the organizations balance sheet in value subject to interest rate changes (Kidwell et.al 2007). VAR is the most often used method of measuring risk. It is a statistical representation of the worst economic loss expected from a change in market due to prevailing conditions, at a specific confidence level and period (Miller Reuer 1996) . For example 79% implies that 79 out of every100 observations wonââ¬â¢t be more than the VAR number. The VAR results are presented as a % of the total capital to show the ability of the organization to take the computed loss (Bank of Jamaica 2005). Futures, options and swaps are some common derivative techniques used to help minimize interest rate risk and ensure profit or minimum losses. Financial futures contracts Financial futures are employed with the aim or reducing interest rate risks. The price of these futures goes up when the prevailing interest rates are low and subsequently drops when the interest rates rise. A good illustration of this is in the banking industry; when the bank risks a drop in profits due to rise in interest rates, it offsets this risk by selling financial futures (Palmer Wiseman 2007). Options on financial futures Caps, floors and collars on interest rates can be created by use of financial futures which act to reduce interest rate risks. A cap acts as a shield against increasing interest rates while a floor shields the organization against dipping interest rates(Kidwell et.al 2007). Caps put a limit to the extent to which the cost of a product can rise and a floor gives the lower limit of the product price. Though at a cost, this provides some of balance and ensures that interest rate losses are minimized. Swaps While options and financial futures mitigate against interest risks in the short run, swaps are better suited for mitigating against long term interest rate risk exposures. Swaps allow banks to trade funds at a variable rate for a fixed cost of funds (Juttner et.al 1997). As an illustration, if a financial institution speculates that interest rate will go up, they can get into a swap where they will pay at a fixed rate but receive floating. This ensures minimum losses and more stable earnings. Conclusion It was established that the main risks affecting most markets and financial institutions are credit risks, foreign exchange risks and interest rate risks. These risks could bring about huge losses both in reduced earnings and company value depreciation if not regularly and effectively managed. These risks have however been greatly reduced due to development of modern risk management techniques over the years. The most common and effective ones include swaps, financial futures, options and forward hedges. All these have been discussed in the paper and their pros and cons highlighted. Different financial institutions, individual investors and corporations all face the above mentioned risks at different degrees and situations; one situation may bring about losses to one party yet benefit the other. Although the risks are different and each party experiences them under unique circumstances, all parties need some degree of analysis to ensure that any losses resulting from these risks are minimal, if present at all. Different techniques are employed but financial institutions similar techniques to hedge against the risks. List of References Bank of Jamaica 2005. Web.
